I recently challenged some of my senior models to participate in a “Natural Beauty” shoot without any makeup or fancy hairstyling. They were instructed to come as they are without anything artificial to hide behind or cover them up. This is what we created together:
Payton is one powerful young lady. She is a powerhouse in the classroom, as a member of DECA, and as a member of the discus team in track and field. We had a great time focusing on all of her accomplishments during her senior session!
As the year comes to a close, it is only right to celebrate MaKaylee's senior pictures. A beautiful combination of nature and rustic street-scapes, MaKaylee had a lovely backdrop and did a wonderful job on her session. Here are just a few of her pictures, today, on her final day of high school! Congratulations!
The 2018 school year is coming to a close, and with that, we are beginning to look for seniors from the class of 2019. The new Adrienne Nicole Photography model team recently got together for their first formal session. We chose a red white and black theme for this dressy urban session. Here are some great sneak peeks from downtown Indianapolis. Make sure you scroll all the way to the end for some fun behind the scenes shots.
Senior model Bria agreed to meet bright and early at 7:30am for this greenhouse shoot. It proved to be a busy Sunday morning but Bria was unfazed by the staring shoppers. The rising sun provided us with amazing natural lighting to work with. We loved feeling the warmth and were inspired by by the vibrant blooming flowers. It's so great to finally have Spring flowers and weather!
As the weather is heating up, downtown Indy is becoming more and more vibrant. Tri-West senior Bryce and I explored the city this past summer to create her session. I loved how she was so carefree and willing to go anywhere. I'm happy she chose to represent her relaxed personal style with some of her outfit choices. This contrasted with her dressed up look of a romper and statement necklace. Her high school style is now captured in moments she can always look back to!
You may have noticed that things have been a little quiet over here since the beginning of the year. Well, there's a good reason for that!
Have you ever had the rug pulled out from under you and had something happen that came so far out of left field that there was no way to see it coming? Well, that's what has happened to me. Right after Thanksgiving 2017 I woke up and my hands felt funny, kind of like I had slept on them, but they wouldn't "wake up". With my medical knowledge of course I jumped to terrible conclusions, but I decided I was crazy and just waited. Finally, I saw a neurologist and after Christmas I had an MRI of my spine. Check it out below. Pretty cool to see your insides :) Anyway, I have learned that I have 2 herniated discs in my neck which are pushing on my spinal cord pretty significantly. Many people with herniated discs have pain because their disc is pushing on a nerve, but mine is on my spine directly, so its both good and bad. Good that I am with minimal pain, but bad that I basically have injured my spinal cord and can't wait around. I continue to have weakness in my hands and legs and I've been told that if I let this go, I could permanently lose function and sensation throughout my body.
All this to say, that I have had to take a break from most physical activities - only the necessities. After wishing this would just go away, consulting several surgeons, and reading everything I can get my hands on online, I am scheduled to have a pretty major spinal surgery in February. If everything goes well, they will be able to replace my broken discs with artificial discs - just like a hip or knee replacement. (The surgeons all say it's "routine" but there is nothing routine about cutting someone's neck open to reach their spine and replace what has gone bad. - look up ACDR, or ACDF) The recovery from something like this can be quite long. I haven't wanted to schedule any future photography work until I know how I am going to recover. I hope that by April or May I will be back to light duty work, and can complete any obligations I have to current clients, and get back to work with my next group of seniors for the class of 2019!
Any words of encouragement are much appreciated as I have never had a surgery/anesthesia, never taken much more than ibuprofen before! It sucks that this had to happen at this phase of my life, trying to be active with a toddler and a career, I've been told I'm pretty young for this to have happened, but hopefully that means I'll be able to heal fast!
Thank you so much for understanding and sticking with me while I take care of myself. I feel so bad that I can't keep up with my work as I would like. I really don't want to miss anyone from the class of 2018 or 2019!! I still plan to continue with my senior model program, but we will be getting a later start this year. However, I may be slow to respond, or have to push scheduling sessions for several months. Hang in there with me, and I hope that I can put all this behind me by the summer. Thanks so much!!

Grace is a senior at Plainfield High School. She is a member of their dance team and competes with Infinity, a local competitive dance studio. Grace was a pleasure to work with. The beautiful scenery at Avon Gardens was the perfect setting for her summer shoot!
Mekenzie was willing to try anything on her portrait session! She is a senior at Avon and on the dance team. We explored the outdoor scenery of Ellis Park in Danville and then traveled over to the downtown square for a more urban vibe. The lighting that night made for some unique portraits! Here are a few of the stunning images from her session!
Mariah has been both a high school and competitive cheerleader winning her numerous awards. I loved how they brought white daisies to incorporate into her photos! At the end of her session we were able to get her hair wet and play in the water. All of this chilly weather is starting to make me miss summer sessions like this one.
Jessie is a huge baseball fan! Her family has season tickets for the Indianapolis Indians. We were able to get special access to Victory Field for part of her senior session! We also explored around the canal downtown to finish out her shoot. Despite a pause for rain I had a wonderful day photographing Jessie.
I had a wonderful time exploring Avon with Morgan for her senior session. She has participated in the Avon's Color Guard winning numerous prestigious awards. I loved how we were able to photograph her cap and gown shots at the high school. Being a huge Cubs fan, Morgan also had to get pictures with her new puppy Wrigley, named after Wrigley Field.
